Floating

What Factors Affect Floating?
 1. Shape
 2. Size
 3. Construction materials

Any material that has less density than the liquid on which it is supposed to float.
There are many types of materials which float in water.
Some materials which float on water are ...
  • corks
  • plastic items like containers, barrels and bottles
  • cardboard
  • some types of wood
  • aluminium
  • metal
  • oils
  • wax
  • styrofoam

This video describes Archimedes Principle that states

 \frac { \text{density of object}} { \text{density of fluid} } = \frac { \text{weight}} { \text{weight of displaced fluid} }

The reason this video is significant because when creating a floating object, a ship or a raft, one must know the weight it has to carry in order to see if it will float or sink

This is another video that describes the same case using boats
